Day 1 – Read and summarise a story. Revise verbs and clauses, use conjunctions.
Day 2 – Read and summarise a story. Identify and use conjunctions to add information about time, cause and place.
Day 3 – Plan and write a story, using conjunctions. Read another version.
Day 4 – Reading a set of poems, choosing favourite, answering questions and reading a poem aloud.
Day 5 – Reading poems. Preparing a comparison between two poems.
Day 1 – Children read the Ananse story, reflect on it, then summarise it with words and pictures. children use the Revision Card to revise verbs and clauses and then practise using conjunctions.
Day 2 – Provide input, using the PowerPoint presentation* on conjunctions for time, place and cause. The first 4 slides are repeats of Day 1’s. If children can access this in PowerPoint, they hear the voice-over teaching. Read and summarise another Ananse tale. Practise using conjunctions.
Day 3 – Children make notes about a beautiful illustration of Ananse flying and then plan a story based on this. They write their stories, trying to include sentences that use conjunctions.
Day 4 – Children read a set of nature poems and choose their favourite. Answer questions about these poems to help you reflect and then practise reading it aloud.
Day 5 – Optional input, hearing about the poems that children have chosen and talking them through the Compare/Contrast Frames. Children choose two poems and compare or contrast them using the frame. They go on to make illustrations for one of the poems.
